We have various tours and options for the living desert (also called ‘little five’) tours. These tours give you an insight on the small, resilient creatures living in our dunes. It offers a lot of information and a tranquil drive through the Namib Desert. The most popular tour takes place from 8am until 1pm. There are also shorter ones (which are just as great!), and cost less, but include the same information. You will be collected here at the guesthouse.
  • Boat Tours

Boat Tours

These take place in the Walvis Bay lagoon. Collection at the guesthouse is at 8am and at 1pm you will be back here. The boat tour offers a lot of info on our marine creatures and – best of all – some sparkling wine, snacks and fresh oysters. You’ll see seals and pelicans and, if you are lucky, dolphins frolicking in the waves created by the boat.

For the kayaking experience, you will have to drive to Walvis Bay yourself early in the morning. Depending on the time of the year, your departure times vary. Please enquire with us at reception. Because you’ll be paddling in the Walvis Bay lagoon, you won’t encounter rough waves, but we do recommend an extra pair of socks. The best part about the kayaking is the close encounter with the seals. Every guest who went kayaking so far was delighted and said it was a recommendable experience. Snacks and drinks are provided when you’re done.

There are various operators who offer sandboarding, on various dunes around Swakopmund. All of them will collect and deliver you here. Usually, the operators will offer lie-down boarding as well. This is a must for any snow-boarding enthusiast, also, because this is a truly unique experience and can only be done in a few countries around the world. Word to the wise: going up takes time and energy. You’ll be glad if you haven’t made massive plans for afterwards. It is quite exhausting. Plus, you’ll definitely want to pop into the shower when you are back at the guesthouse.

These are also offered by various companies. For the city tours, you will be collected or can meet the tour guide in town. These offer information and insight on the urban set-up of Swakopmund, with a look into our history and architecture. There are also city tours by bike, if you’d like to add a bit more speed to the experience.

Although these often seem controversial, all the operators who offer township tours have done a great job in allowing tourists to feel comfortable and welcome when visiting the ghetto. An added plus is that some of the money you spend on the tour goes straight back to the community. Here, too, you can opt for a bicycle township tour. You will be able to get a deeper look and gain understanding into some of our indigenous cultures. These tours allow you to get a broader perspective of our eclectic nation.

If you’d like to get to know our beach and ocean a bit better, you can go on a fishing trip or beach walk. There are options that include a luxurious lunch on the beach as well. You can choose from half day trips to full day. All fishing gear is provided – however, whether or not you catch anything is up to the ocean.

Cape Cross houses the biggest seal colony in Namibia and can be explored with a guided tour or privately. It is quite a sight to witness so many seals at once. Cape Cross is around an hour and a half’s drive away from Swakopmund, so it could take you half a day to explore this option.

Fat bikes are unique in that their fat wheels allow for exploring a rougher terrain. Want to cycle down a dune? Then this activity is for you. Kids and adults alike always return with broad smiles on their faces after taking part in a quad-bike tour. The tours can last for 60 minutes to three hours. You can choose any time of day and there are even options where sandboarding is included. Or – if you want to explore the desert on a quadbike AND gain some insight, you can opt for the explorer tour, which is a combination of the living desert and quad biking tour (this takes place in the mornings only).

Sandwich harbour is a magical place. Not only is it special, because of its surrealistic, phenomenal beauty – dunes cuddling along the ocean. It is also unique, in that it can only be reached during low tide. This factor, as well as experience in driving on beach sand and through the desert, makes it essential to book it as a guided tour. The tour can be booked as half- or full-day and snacks and drinks are provided.

This speaks for itself. If you are itching for that adrenaline rush and have always wanted to jump out of a plane, let us know. We can book you a sky-dive with one of the companies here. Tandem or solo jumps are offered. You can also get a custom-made video that records the whole experience.

The moon landscape is barren and tranquil and vast and unforgettable. You can book a tour, if you would like some information to deepen your experience. Or you can get a permit (in town, we’ll show you where to go) and drive yourself. You can go all the way to the Welwitschia (an ancient plant, part of the incredible flora and fauna of Namibia. You can also make a pit-stop at Goanikontes, a lovely little restaurant in the river-bed, 20KM outside of Swakopmund.

The world looks different from the top and when you have a curiosity to experience a birds’ eye view of the dunes along the ocean, the pink salt pans and the vast, rhythmic desert, then you would probably want to book a flight. There are various companies who offer various flight durations. We will gladly book a seat for you.
